Bob, looks like you are still trying to find logic on this market. Why market is down or up is anyone's guess. There is more than enough purely digital financial information for this market to tank, IMHO. No one cares about it and this is one side of the insanity. Another should be an attention to significantly less important, preferably "non-digital" factors. It would be more logical for this market to tank because of Monica and not because of manufacturing contraction. Our short term aim should be to predict factors that may influence the market, are they important or not in our opinion doesn't really matter. That's why I think that Roger's prediction, as well as Lawrence's and others were very good and useful. Again,no one can say for sure that today Dow decline was related to imp proc, but it was in line with the hypothesis. Only the hypothesis that can PREDICT, not simply explain after all, is worth something. In general, I completely agree with your point, to blame or to credit any single person in the world for global economic conditions means to overestimate grossly the role of the individual.
BTW, I would really appreciate if you can post, at least from time to time, brief review of TV "life". Unfortunately, I have no time to watch, but it's extremely important to be "updated".
