A comment and a question to all:

1. Polls say 2/3 of U.S. citizens oppose impeachment. My guess is that 2/3 of the people don't know what impeachment is. Most people, when asked, think it means removing the president from office. Nope. It simply means the House brings charges against him for crimes against the state. The Senate then tries him with the Chief Justice presiding. Most knowledgeable observers say there is almost zero chance the Senate will convict Bill Clinton.

2. How is a Senate trial and (potential) government gridlock a bad thing?
