Sikaman has acquired an option to earn a 75 per cent interest in the Pontiac
Township property from Central Asia Goldfields. The property is in Pontiac
Township, Ontario, which is near the Quebec border, northeast of Kirkland Lake,
Ontario. This claim group consists of 88 claims, and covers a portion of the Blake
River Group of mafic to felsic volcanic flows and breccias, which have been
demonstrated to contain significant volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits in both
Ontario and Quebec.
Previous exploration work has been done on this claim group, since its original
staking in 1989. During the summer of 1989, five diamond drill holes were
completed to depths ranging from 140 to 300 metres, around the Gilman copper
showing found that summer. One of the holes was drilled about 100 metres to the
east of the mineralized contact, vertically to a depth of 1000 feet. This hole ended
in a zone of increasing sodium depletion, an indication of proximity to the vent that
formed the VMS body.
In the summer of 1990, a detailed soil sampling and whole rock analysis survey
was conducted to search for elemental enrichments and depletions associated with
VMS body emplacement. This project succeeded in proving that there was a
geochemical anomaly on the mineralized contact of the Gilman showing with a
felsic pyroclastic unit which contains large (1 to 2 cm) clasts of oxidized sulphides.
In the fall of 1990 a UTEM survey was conducted across much of the property,
locating several conductors.
It is the intent of Sikaman to start an exploration program on these claims later this
year, which will be the beginning of an exploration expenditure program in excess
of $500,000 over the next three years to acquire the 75 per cent interest. The
proposed exploration program includes approximately 4,500 metres of diamond
drilling covering five or six holes, which will effectively test the two highest priority
targets on the claim block.
The Pontiac Township project is one of several base metal exploration and
development projects evaluated by Sikaman over the past year which fit within
Sikaman's geographic focus of Northeastern Ontario and Northwestern Quebec.
