They could, but I'll tell you, with working 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, I somehow don't think they gave a hoot.

One guy was literally lying down on the asphalt parking lot using a concrete curb for a pillow. Plus, when they go home at night, they have paperwork to complete. They may have up to a 50-mile commute.
Someone has to send the day's results to the office and complete a map showing where and how deep the fiber was placed.

Mention was made of someone working 14 consecutive weeks with no days off.

The money must be good. They seemed more interested in their salary than investing in Qwest. Which brings up an interesting point: Isn't it great in America, where people like us can invest in companies like Qwest and share in the fruits of their successes without actually working for the company?
