1. Lying under oath in a civil proceeding is a crime against our system of law.

2. Dissembling and hiding behind legal hair-splitting to avoid the consequences of those lies is a crime against the people and the sensibilities which created that system.

If Bill Clinton had immediately owned up to, and showed true contrition for, number 1 above, instead of opting for number 2, he would not now face a Senate trial.
