Whoops - I beg to differ.

The paralytical effects for the duration of the Senate debates are twofold:

1) No other business will occur during that time (not that they do THAT much anyway) but never-the-less... The Senate HAS to sit through all of the trial as jurors. Yes, they'll get a "potty" break from time to time - but nothing else will get done. No legislation of any kind can take place.

And, like it or not, Clinton will (as President) will continue to represent the country in foreign affairs (as is being done in Israel and Gaza as we speak). What happens if Saddam Hussein raises his ugly head during all this - who the hell is going to handle real conflict? We're going to be like the Romans with the Huns attacking from the north while we're drinking Chardonnay and eating grapes watching "Days of Our Lives" on TV.

2) Chief Justice Renquist has to preside over the hearings rather than doing his normal duties in the Supreme court.

All this over a lie and some noontime nookie in the Whitehouse.

We can stand on the high moral principle and be "right" - yes, the guy committed perjury but we honestly have some other things to do in this country other than spank the President.

Get real - this IS a crisis.
