Enterworks Launches First Software Solution Designed to Automate the Implementation of Enterprise Applications

ASHBURN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1998--

Unique Solution Expedites The Deployment Of Enterprise

Applications By Capturing Best Practices Methodology

Enterworks(SM), Inc., the leading provider of software for enabling the virtual enterprise, today announced Enterworks(TM) Process Manager (EPM) for Deployment, the first software solution for automating the implementation of large-scale enterprise applications.

EPM for Deployment enables companies to plan and execute enterprise application deployments of any size by streamlining processes and providing customized information and guidance. It lets users define all the steps involved in the deployment process, including sequential and parallel execution of activities, as well as conditional branching, without having to write a single line of code. EPM for Deployment automatically generates browser-based task lists for each person involved in the deployment. Intelligent agents within the software allow users to capture the methodologies of seasoned consultants and employees to define the best possible approach to deploying a strategic enterprise application.

"One of the main factors for failed or delayed deployment of enterprise applications, such as enterprise resource management (ERM) systems, is the lack of coordinated and well-defined processes," said Herb VanHook, senior program director, META Group. "IT organizations desire a best-practice approach, leveraging management discipline expertise, with information accessible across the organization during implementation."

"With the launch of Enterworks Process Manager for Deployment, we reaffirm our vision of creating simplicity and building intelligence for the virtual enterprise," said Robert Lewis, president of Enterworks. "We recognize that doing anything enterprise-wide is difficult. EPM for Deployment provides a framework for capturing the best practices developed for a particular package and making those best practices available to everybody in an automated fashion."

EPM Features

EPM is an object-oriented solution that offers flexibility, extensibility and scalability. It consists of open standards and technologies such as Java, CORBA and IP connectivity and offers an intuitive Windows-like user interface. Its features include: FlowBuilder: An intuitive, graphical flow-building function that allows a user to visually define a workflow process. Users can drag and drop icons that represent elements of a workflow from a floating palette onto the workflow canvas, set their properties and create links between them to create a workflow definition.

Task Manager: A browser-based task list for each person involved in the deployment process. In the Task Manager, users access tasks that have been assigned to them and generate new work items to be dropped into existing workflows.

Personal Subflows: Task wizards for individual users in the deployment process. These customized sequences of tasks evolve as instructions and requirements change and provide the functionality of a task wizard to deliver step-by-step guidance to users as they complete their assignments.

Business Integration Components (BICs): BICs make intelligent decisions in the dissemination of information through business processes. EPM implements BICs through a set of CORBA classes that are used to build new applications or to integrate existing applications into EPM processes. Being Java-based, EPM BICs are able to run on any networked computer.

Availability

EPM for Deployment will be available for limited release, strategic partners only, in late December 1998. General availability will be in the first quarter of 1999.
