I am an IT professional with 15 years in the business, and certified in both NT (since 1993) and Sun Solaris (since 1997).
Linus is not a threat to MSFT at all.
It's Unix for crying out loud, so by default, it's very , very complicated for the average user...
Not a threat at all to Windows or other GUI environments.
Unix is a better Enterprise OS for databases and pure horsepower, but needs "high-tech" priests to maintain it.
NT is good for up to medium systems, super workstations and up to medium servers running file and print, and web and apps.
Windows is the pre-eminent desktop OS, easy to use (compared to the alternatives, OS/2, Linus or Unix) and has the widest industry support and acceptance.
What a joke, Linus replacing Windows...
People that say that have no clue, they were probably invested in people like Ashton-tate, Lotus, WordPerfect, Novell (until recently) and lost their shirts (as well as their objectivity).
To play the market perfectly, in their respective strenghts, BOTH Sun MicroSystems and MicroSoft are excellent investments.and excellent companies.
Microsoft in Desktop OS, programming languages, Applications and small-medium server platforms and "farms"
Sun MicroSystems is strong in programming also, strong in workstations too (weakening) , very, very strong in scalable super-powerful server platforms, and the internet.
Great companies, great investments, both of them
This religious war has got to stop, it's juvenile in the extreme, as well as counter-productive and unprofitable for investors.
That's my opinion I am sticking to it <smile>
Take care Jean
