cjac, You hit the nail on the head... as an investor who's riding this pony SOUTH I see things a lot clearer than a poster who wants to speak techno-geek....here is the story behind NeXT.....the Apple board of directors, (quite possibly the slowest lumbering herd of elephants on the planet) concluded that something HAD to be done to stop this accelerating decline of Apple's fortunes.....So they decided on a " BACK TO THE FUTURE" strategy.... They thought, (mistakingly) that if they could bring back one of the Apple co-founders that it would restore shareholder confidence....(Ah yes, we're returning to the glory days)....Now, here's the rub....Getting Steve Jobs to sign on meant that he had to be bought..... Is anyone so naive to think that he was coming back because he had a "soft place in his heart for Apple"? Now Steve is CEO of NeXT....Steve negotiates a deal where Apple shells out $400,000,000 to acquire his company.....(All this money for a public relations stunt?... now that's desperation)... NeXT technology is eight years old.... Apple's board of directors could have acquired BeOS technology... ie. the cutting edge stuff, but Steve Jobs wasn't part of that package... As Paul Harvey used to say, "So now you know the REST of the story"...
