Hi Pat:

Haven't seen anyone mention it and maybe it's old news but -- there is an article on the front page (below the fold) of USA Today entitled "US West to upgrade Net access" by Steve Rosenbush. Some snippets:

"US West will offer digital, high-speed Internet access to businesses in 10 cities by June in the first large-scale deployment of the technology by a regional Bell phone company."

"...The technology sends digital signals over a regular copper phone wire. That saves phone companies the expense of installing fiber-optic wires or coaxial cables , which cable TV operators use."

"Data can be transmitted at speeds ranging from 128 kilobits per second...to as much as 51 megabits a second..."

"The US West plan follows an announcement last month by MFS Communications to introduce similar service this year."

The article never actually mentions xDSL specifically but it seems pretty clear to me. The ten cities mentioned include Minneapolis, Seattle, Phoenix, Portland, Denver, Salt Lake City, Omaha, Boise, Cedar Rapids and Rochester, MN. It will expand the service throughout its 14-state region by Dec 31.

Bob
