AMD Announces Strategic Relationship with Telechips Corporation

Telechips to Base Information Appliances on AMD's Elan SC400 Microcontroller

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1997--AMD and Telechips Corporation today announced a strategic relationship in which the companies will
collaborate on a new generation of Telechips web appliances based on AMD's Elan SC400 microcontroller.

Adoption of AMD's highly integrated Elan SC400 microcontroller will significantly broaden the capability of Telechips future products, which are slated to offer a
graphical touch screen interface and powerful desktop-level computer functionality.

Telechips currently uses AMD's Am386SE microprocessor in the Access 3000, an information appliance which combines the power of a PC with the simple user
interface of a telephone keypad and a touch screen display.

"AMD is an ideal partner because their microcontroller roadmap complements the future direction of the Telechips product family," said C.A.("Al") Burns, chairman
and chief executive officer of Telechips Corporation. "Use of AMD's high performance, highly integrated lan processors will undoubtedly add flexibility and
increased capability to our products."

Based on AMD's proven low-voltage Am486 microprocessor core, the Elan SC400 microcontroller integrates virtually all of the peripheral logic required for a
PC/AT compatible system onto a single chip. The processor supports DOS, Windows and x86 compatible real time operating systems.

Founded in 1992, Telechips Corporation designs, engineers and markets 100% Microsoft Windows interactive multimedia communications systems for use in the
hospitality, financial services, and healthcare industries. Telechips Access information appliances present information via a touch-sensitive screen, enabling users to
transmit, receive, and process all types of data: audio, text and graphics. By accessing its on-line capabilities, users can connect to the internet, intranets, and other
proprietary networks.
