You sound like an OK guy, Mark. There is a point to all this.

Take your statement, ...the damage to the collective national psyche far exceeds whatever is to be gained by this flawed process...

and print it out on a piece of paper. Now, go to the television and turn it on. Pick a channel, any channel except sports (pro wrestling excepted), cartoons, financial networks, weather, or old movies. (New movies work great.)

1. Look at what is going on right there in front of you. For an interesting additional effect, pretend you are 5 years old.

2. Now, read your statement.

3. Change the channel.

4. Repeat Steps 1., 2., and 3.

5. Repeat Step 4.

Tell me the House Judiciary Committee is causing more damage than Jerry Springer or Geraldo Rivera or World's Scariest Police Chases or [you pick it].
