I'm a Canadian and just like Americans we all have differing views of Clinton's situation. Personally I feel that in this case conservative Americans are handcuffed by 'the rule of law'. Many seem to be controlled by the rigidity of law. Laws are like people; they need to be able to bend a little or they will break and more damage will occur.

Laws are basically an agreement set down by a mixture of the wisest and most powerful of a county's people. In a world of changing values there should be room in the legal system to identify a questionable law and instigate change. Imagine not allowing woman the vote. It wasn't that long ago that this was seen as a very rational law. It takes a wise country to be open to change.

Governments and people must sometimes go beyond the law and look at the wisdom of choosing a certain path. Imagine if the Irish could not get over the illegality of so much destruction and so many murders of the last 100 years. The same goes for the middle east. If the people in those countries took the approach: 'Sorry we have to punish everyone who ever did anything wrong' what would be the chance of EVER finding PEACE?

Sometimes you have to simply forgive, forget, or simply move on, so that society benefits more than it loses. If this option is taken out of your menu then what use is WISDOM?

It seems to me that wisdom rather than law can SOMETIMES change a bad situation into good. This may be one of those times.
