Louis,
With regards to your comment about etailing, my point was it is very hard to predice in the current market, who would be a dominant player in etailing other than someone like AOL or Amazon. I'm not saying other companies won't emerge as leaders in this field. I just think it would be to difficult to pridect who. The reason I still included Amazon is because they are so powerful with respect to cash and sky high stock, that they would be in a position to purchase the new leaders , whoever they are while they (the new leaders) are relatively cheap. There does not exist another etailer that I feel confident enough about to predict they will be around in 10 years much less dominant. In fact I shudder at the thought of ponying up the cash to purchase shares in this company with a market cap of aprox. 8 bilion dollars! But combined with 9 other internet companies in a Basket, I think I'm OK with it.

With respect to the comment to include the not so pure plays I'm inclined to disagree to some extent. I was not trying to suggest these companies should not be a part of an overall portfolio. I was trying to suggest they capture the internet indirectly and because there exist other better representitives for the internet than these companies. Sure, INTC will sell more chips because the intenet will help drive demand, but if computers are still overproduced like they are now, the internet portfolio does not have to be penalized for it. Since there are going to only be 10 companies in this portfolio, I think it is served better by purer plays. Now some exceptions to that might be SUNW because of what they are specificaly doing for the internet. This company is migrating more towards the internet as a business model with JAVA. CSCO also might be included because of there routers which are necessary to complete the connection.

Great Dialouge we are starting,
Rob

P.S. sorry about spelling and grammer.
