They (CPQ) cut the prices mainly because 4 out of 5 of their Prosignia models were more expensive than comparable models of DELL. You do know who is going to lose in this little game Compaq is playing,dont ya?

..."The Houston-based company needed to counter the strength of Dell in the corporate market, especially among small and medium- sized businesses, because it was losing market share.

Compaq cut the price of the Prosignia 330, which features an Intel Corp. Pentium II processor running at 350 megahertz and 64 megabytes of memory, to $1,629 from $1,749. Four of the five models sold by Compaq were more expensive than Dell's comparable systems before the price cuts.....'
