Medium and Large Businesses

For The First Time, Dell Also Leads U.S. Notebook Market Share In This
Segment

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1998--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL -
news), led the U.S. PC market in shipments to medium and large businesses, with a 23 percent share
in the third quarter of 1998, according to market research firm International Data Corporation.

Dell, the world's leading direct computer systems company, also assumed the leadership position in the
notebook PC market for medium and large businesses for the first time, with a 21.5 percent share,
ahead of other major brands, IDC said.

According to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC Market Tracker(a), Dell increased its notebook share 2.9
percent for this market segment during the quarter, up from 18.6 percent in the second quarter.

IDC's report follows the release of a ZD Market Intelligence third quarter survey showing Dell to be the
No. 1 PC provider to businesses with more than 500 employees. That report also pointed out that Dell is
the only major vendor growing in this market segment.

''This market share growth reflects Dell's ability to focus directly on the needs of its corporate
customers, and then execute by delivering outstanding products, superior service and support, and the
best overall customer experience,'' said Joe Marengi, senior vice president and general manager of Dell's
Relationship Group.

IDC defines a medium business as having between 100 and 499 employees and a large business as
more than 500 employees.

Ranked No. 125 among the Fortune 500 companies and No. 363 in the Fortune Global 500, Dell
Computer Corporation is the world's leading direct computer systems company, based on revenues of
$16.8 billion for the past four quarters. Dell designs, manufactures and customizes products and
