gregor,

I don't know what will happen.

Your response doesn't have to be adequate in my eyes. Reasonable men and reasonable people who have faith in God can disagree without being disagreeable, right?

I can forgive Clinton. God is more than willing to forgive Clinton, but even if he shows sincere repentance (and what is repentance but a change of heart that is expressed in changed actions that follow?), I still think there may be need and or benefit to there being a trial in the senate -- not for Clinton's sake, if he is truly repentant, but for the country's to reaffirm that principles of truthfulness are a foundation of our government. God is a righteous judge who deplores sin, though he has made provision for us -- yet often public displays were used in both the old and new testaments, so that people would revere him.

Perhaps Clinton is a reflection of our nation -- success and winning at any cost, a little cheating here, a little cheating there is not terrible if you heart's in the right place, etc. I think in effect the vote for a trial may be a rebuke of the majority which is needed at this time.

Some have made the argument to diminish what Clinton has done saying it is his personal life --- the big problem I have with this is the following. If I cannot tell the truth to my wife and those in my closest inner circle -- how can I even come close to being honest in public life. Honesty with one's self is the root.

I watched a Chuck Colson address to students graduating from some university some months ago. He never mentioned Clinton by name. Now here's somebody who's done it, been involved in criminal activity while in government service -- his words about integrity, about real repentance, a real relationship with God offered by Jesus, were so direct. Integrity -- there is no real gain in lying, we are the same people in public and private life, though others may be misled for a time.

I am praying for our representatives, and have been praying for our president, but that is sometimes hard for me to do as so many of his policies seem counter to God ...
