CLARiiON Announces the FC5703 Series Fibre Channel Disk Array; Enterprise-Level Features At Entry-Level Prices
SOUTHBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1998--The CLARiiON(R) Advanced Storage Division of Data General Corporation (NYSE:DGN) today announced the CLARiiON FC5703 disk array, a powerful new entry-level addition to its industry-leading family of end-to-end Fibre Channel disk arrays.
With an easy entry point of just 10 drives, scaling to 30, and features such as fully redundant components, dual-active storage processors, and mirrored write-cache for the highest levels of availability and data integrity, the CLARiiON FC5703 is the most advanced full Fibre Channel disk array in its class. Moreover, it is managed by the world-class CLARiiON Navisphere(tm) storage management software suite which enables system administrators to configure, control, monitor, augment, and respond to all operations of their CLARiiON storage from a single management station located anywhere in the world. Such features make it an excellent choice for the challenges of more sophisticated applications such as OLTP, data warehousing, scientific research, and Web-based commerce, as well as other applications with a significant cost associated with downtime and/or loss of data. The FC5703 also offers heterogeneous platform support on Microsoft Windows NT, Novell NetWare, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and IBM AIX for plug-and-play deployment.
"The CLARiiON FC5703 delivers enterprise-level features at entry-level prices, making it ideal for small-to-midsize enterprises that wish to protect their initial technology investments as their organizations grow," said Mark Vargo, director of solutions marketing for CLARiiON. "This announcement further demonstrates the ability of CLARiiON to develop high-value, cost-effective products and deliver them with the fastest time-to-market."
With the addition of the FC5703 disk array to the already robust Fibre Channel storage product family, CLARiiON is opening up a whole new market for high-function, low-capacity, full Fibre Channel storage. Available immediately, the CLARiiON FC5703 disk array has a list price starting at $35,000.
"IDC expects that the external RAID multiuser storage market will grow to $24.4 billion by the year 2002 with Fibre Channel-based systems capturing 64 percent," said Robert Gray, research manager, storage subsystems at International Data Corp. (IDC).
Added Vargo, "As the driving force in this Fibre Channel market, CLARiiON is well positioned to take advantage of this tremendous market opportunity. The increased breadth of our Fibre Channel product offerings now further enhances our leadership role."
Since their introduction over a year ago, CLARiiON Fibre Channel disk arrays have been chosen by many of the world's top companies and have become the industry's most widely adopted full Fibre Channel-based storage solution. |
