Oracle Eyes Partnership With Dell, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Oracle Corp. hopes to create a partnership with Dell Computer Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co., Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison said here Wednesday. The company announced Monday a tie-up with Sun Microsystems Inc.

Ellison's comments appeared aimed at emphasizing Oracle's plan to form alliances to fight Microsoft Corp. for dominance of the computer market. Oracle is a leading proponent of network computing, under which users activate applications software via the Internet from servers running a Sun Microsystems operating system.
