Additional El Limon drilling results
Black Hawk Mining Inc BHK Shares issued 83,207,868 1998-12-15 close $0.18 Wednesday Dec 16 1998 Mr. Thomas Ogryzlo reports The company has received drill hole results from the infill drilling program on the 1998 Talavera Sur discovery at its El Limon mine in northwestern Nicaragua, Central America. The following results are for infill drilling between sections 11150E and 11250E completed on Talavera Sur subsequent to the drill results released on Sept. 4, 1998. An additional 13 diamond core holes, totalling 2,093 metres, were completed for a grand total of 4,428 metres of drilling in 29 holes since the initial discovery in May 1998. No cutting has been applied to high gold assays at this time, though a few very high assays may require cutting for resource estimation. Est. Underground development has been commenced from workings in the operating Talavera mine in order to provide access to Talavera Sur at the 190 and 218 mine levels. Approximately 80 metres of development on each level remains to be completed to reach the vein. Existing mine infrastructure will allow relatively inexpensive development and mining of Talavera Sur. The infill drilling confirms the continuity of the high-grade gold mineralization between Sections 11150E and 111250E and increases the vertical extent to 145 metres from the 135 level down to the 280 level. This segment of Talavera Sur averages 4.0 metres true width and 17.7 grams per tonne gold based on the drill results from the 21 holes that fall within the above defined area. The Talavera Sur deposit is typical of epithermal vein systems, which contain economic zones of mineralization with discrete top and bottom limits. The top of the Talavera Sur economic gold grades in this section of the vein is evident at approximately the 135 mine level; the bottom of the system has not yet been defined and is still open. Two older drill intercepts, in holes 2127 and 1469 located between 50 metres and 100 metres to the northeast, demonstrate the vein's continuation to the northeast; they intersect the vein high in the system above the economic top. As stated in the September news release, Talavera Sur may be projected another 200 metres to the northeast to connect with the Talavera Este footwall vein where mineable reserves are already being extracted. Hole 2401 has intercepted a second zone consisting of a hydrothermal quartz breccia with high gold values, 28.20 grams per tonne over an estimated 2.23 metres true width. The breccia is in the immediate hanging wall of Talavera Sur. This zone had been previously encountered in other holes, but this is the first indication of significant gold grades and will require follow-up. The company's routine and ongoing check assay and quality control program provides confirmation of the mine laboratory assay results reported above. ACME Analytical Laboratories of Vancouver, an external and independent Canadian laboratory, is used by Black Hawk for check assaying. Core recovery of mineralized intersections is generally very good and is normally above 90 per cent. Metallurgy Good recoveries, above 90 per cent, are indicated by the three metallurgical tests completed to date at the Limon laboratory. These bottle roll tests were done on three different composite samples of drill core representing three different gold grades. The three samples were ground to 85 per cent passing 200 mesh. Further Work A resource estimate of the Talavera Sur vein between Sections 11150E and 111250E will be reported in Black Hawk's year end reserve and resource statement. Underground diamond drilling has been commenced on Section 11300E below the 135 mine level. The objective is to test the northeastern continuation of economic gold mineralization towards the Talavera Este footwall zone. The FWII vein, 35 metres to 55 metres south of Talavera Sur and first identified in May 1998, will be followed up with additional drilling in 1999. A surface drilling campaign is currently in progress on the Veta Nueva vein system; the objective is to upgrade the classification of previously identified geological resources. Veta Nueva is an east-west striking vein system that is situated between 400 metres and 1,000 metres east of the Talavera mining operation. |
