OFF TOPIC. . . way off topic. . .
I doubt all the nuts come from the south, but Southerners do have a way of drawing attention to themselves. Perhaps because they're born story-tellers. Let's face it, the news is a series of sound bytes and those in question are a cameraman's delight. Having said all this, I must admit I've only met a few Southerners in my life, so my sampling is rather limited.
As for my comment about "Bible thumpers," I'm not blasting Christians in the least. I don't see any connection. My understanding of what the latter means is best exemplified in C.S. Lewis's book, Till We Have Faces. At the end of the story the main character has to go before the judge and being terrified, she tells her wise friend, the Fox, she's sure she cannot hope for mercy.
He responds, "Be sure that, whatever else you get, you will not get justice."
"Are the gods not just?" she asks.
"Oh, no, child. What would become of us if they were?"
What, indeed. . .
