Ganesh, I got them from Sunday's Boston Globe. Most newspapers will post Year-to-Date (which the Globe does everyday) and past 12 mos. and 3 year returns on a fairly regular basis. As I've indicated, some will do some return periods on a daily basis.
If you want to follow personally, go to quote.yahoo.com and set up a Personal Portfolio. You can pick a date, and put in the actual shares which you own and the per share price you paid, and it will give you up-to-date return, including percentage return. You can track some funds in which you're interested but don't own, and compare to those funds in which you've invested. For example, pick 1/1/97 as the date (or today's date) and enter the share price of PBHG Tech & Comm (PBTCX) (which was 17.56) and pretend you purchased 1 share. Do this for all your funds, and you will have a porfolio that Yahoo will immediately present for you with current price, change, and %+ or - since the entry date you have selected. You can set up many portfolios. I have three. One for the small caps in which I'm invested, one for my IRA holdings which at present are primarily REITs, and one for mutual funds. And it's all free!
Some other sites to get similar info: vanguard.com networth.galt.com mfmag.com
The Vanguard site will let you look up any fund and give you all the specific information you could want. You can pick funds and compare them starting at a specific date. Great Tool!
