Blockmar of L M Ericsson was in Wellington as part of a world tour. I guess he is here mainly to try to stop Telecom New Zealand swapping from TDMA to cdmaOne. Also probably trying to do the same in Australia with Telstra who will by now be installing cdmaOne equipment as part of the stopping of analog service next year.

He is in charge of VW40 apparently. He repeats the silly idea that QUALCOMM owning cdmaOne and cdma2000 patents won't stop VW40. Well, we'll see. Iraq is being stopped right now. The USA doesn't take kindly to their interests being damaged. Especially big interests. Like oil or telecommunications.

Well, the USA was bound to do something. I suppose Iraq got their timing wrong for the latest filibuster on inspections. Just when oil was at an super low. The USA will now have to continue sanctions for some time. Libya produces oil too. I bet they don't mess around too long in handing over the alleged Pan Am/Lockerbie bombers. The USA is feeling a bit stroppy and they have the means to trample a lot of stuff in a short time.

Saddam must be having fun. The whole world watching him as he takes on the Great Satan. His name will go down in history! Same for Bill Clinton. He must be having the time of his life! Sure Hillary got annoyed, but he's the indisputable Alpha Male of Planet Earth. King Kong on two legs. He's not going to pull his jaw in and let the Republicans gain a millimetre, let alone an inch. He'll take it all to the wire, and after Al Gore has had a turn wearing the President's hat, Clinton will be back for another term in his 60s! Never been done before in USA history.

It won't be so much fun sitting round writing memoirs.

Oil stopped going down in price! That won't last long unless some other supply is cut too.

[Jason, I can see they really got your goat! But it isn't really a war. It's a disciplinary action. There is little threat to military people carrying out the action and almost no threat to the USA. Iraq is only prepared for fighting WWII type actions. No match for Tomahawks coming in with GPS from over the horizon. Nevertheless, I agree it isn't that bright to distract the leader in times of strife - they might cause him to make a mistake while he's looking over his shoulder. Impeachment for such a pathetic issue can wait.]
