I do that, too. I'm sure the reason not everyone does it is because it is such a nuisance. Our recycling isn't even picked up at our house, we have to drive it all, in its various categories, to a collecting place down the road once a week if we want to recycle. I also have a worry about how it is handled. My fear is that I separate everything, tie the categories of paper into bundles, wash the cans and jars... and the truck picks it all up, drives away, and then dumps it onto an enormous common pile.
