Well, that the folks here want to spend time assassinating each others characters rather than being honest about the facts, accepting what's real, and understanding why opinions are held, is maybe just a bad reflection on us all- but it's to be expected- and maybe it's not so bad. This willingness to describe each other as "wicked" is really a lot like road rage- as someone posted recently.
I think we all have acquaintances who hold differing views from our own. SOMEtimes we may argue vehemently in person with them...and have these angry feelings. Yet so darn much of the time we just accept them as friends, we are congenial, we ignore the disagreements on purpose, we do things together, and we don't think about them as EVIL- though it's lurking in the back of our minds at times. Still, we defend them over many things. We talk of other things and find areas of agreement. Other things we share in in-person relationships become too important to let opinions get in the way.
This internet wasn't around during Nixon's time. Here, we purposefully get together for the express purpose of talking about things we KNOW others in the room disagree with. I think this is an amazing place to learn tact, to slowly realize what's right in the "other side." - If this thread doesn't blow up the world first. What's happening is probably more profound than we realize...and we, the human race, evolve! There, I actually think all this skulldudgery is headed to a good place, and not just a downward spiral- as I KNOW many people view this thread. Kinda- gettin' our yaya's out! |
