'Wag the dog' analogy is over-simplification of Iraq'a problems. I think Saddam exactly wanted to play on this schism, so far US public is buying this idea that the attack on Iraq is an effort to divert attention, however republican Cohen was clear and I think one needs to scratch the surface a little deeper, if US ever looses the strategic leadership of the globe by letting crooks like Saddam who gas mass their own people, world economic leadership would mean nothing. Is Butler playing in hands of US, I doubt so.

The last crisis that fall short of attack emanated from some documents which were requested by Butler's team. These documents relating to weapons of mass destruction were still not forth coming. Saddam saw an opporutnity seeing that republicans were ready to hit the presidency but like always he found himself on wrong side, ofcourse he knew that alll along but noiw his best chance would be if Americans contaminate thius issue with domestic concerns.

SADDAM tried to dictate terms seeing that the presidency is lameducked under pressure of impeachment, but Clinton resolve was on track it needs bi-partisan support. The economic leadership of the world cannot continue if US let despots run the global agenda, markets and everyone be a loser. For me the actions on Iraq is a correct response to someone who played game of chicken with US- he will not dare next time.. To politicise it will be great victory for Saddam who must have betted that US will not have the stomach and domestic opposition will break the US resolve to remove his despotic regime- so far Lott and others who know very little of realities on this ATLANTIC are falling into this trap..
