PALM VII: ONE WIRELESS WAY TO THE NET
Washington Post - Thursday, December 17, 1998

But there's a big downside: The Palm VII can link up only with Web
content providers that agree to strip down their data for the device.
So far, 22 providers have signed up to do so, including ABCNews.com,
ESPN.com, E-Trade, the Wall Street Journal and Yahoo's white pages.

Will this Web-lite approach take off? Some analysts say Palm's avid
user base will be a magnet for further content providers. But according
to Jane Zweig, of mobile communications researcher firm Herschel
Shosteck Associates in Wheaton, "the future of Palm's proprietary
Web-clipping service appears dim."

Reason: By mid-1999, when the Palm VII hits store shelves, Microsoft
Corp. intends to hit the market with its new "micro browser" for pocket
organizers and cell phones. If it works as promoted, access to the Web
will be unrestricted, but it will still be slow as molasses until
wireless network providers complete their upgrades.
