H, A quick resume of my investment life. Started investing in 1966 or early 1967 (when you get old, exact dates seem to go into a permanent haze) while in the Army. Worked as a technology analyst at Waddell & Reed (The United Group of Funds) from 1979-1981. Left to become an equity and options portfolio manager at The St. Paul Companies from 1981-1983. Moved on to become an equity, futures and options portfolio manager/trader at a hedge fund, Financial Hedge Corporation, in Dallas. Left in 1984 when the doors were padlocked. <G> Went to American Capital in Houston, now Van Kampen-American Capital, as an equity/options manager. While conducting the interview, the bosses asked if I could manage fixed income options and futures. I said "yes." Went home and read some books on what the heck fixed imcome options and futures were. Temporarily managed convertible securities funds at American Capital while waiting for my funds to go through registration and for the mgt. to hire somebody else to run the converts. Took American Capital Govt. Securities, one of the first options and futures funds in the fixed income area, from zero to $10 billion in 26 months. Had a disagreement with mgt. when I lowered maturities and temporarily let the fund become the second highest yielding fund in the world. Took my money and manage it since 1987. Have also managed a maximum income partnership with some Asian buddies since 1996.
I don't think anyone here follows me, necessarily. But, as a contrarian and a guy who has managed huge sums of money in several different areas of the market, I do believe I present a perspective many do not see often. I am certainly not right all the time. But, as the saying goes, I am often wrong but never in doubt. <G>
