I could. But, I can tell just by looking at it that it is cognate with seizure and also a similar word that means a rest stop in music.

OK, I am looking at my little Webster's. It is from the Latin caedere, meaning "to cut," and means a pause in a line of verse, or in a melody. But I was wrong about the seizure. That's from sacire, which means "to take possession." Had to go get my OED, the big Webster's is at the office.
