Hi pez,

Could it be that some of the reasoning behind Bush's not going any further might have been the UN mandate for the war in the first place? It was to remove Iraq from Kuwait, not to send in the posse, flatten the country and have a rerun of the Nuremberg Trials. The whole international force was built on the mandate.

I agree that too many pictures of dead Iraqui soldiers after the objective was reached could have made the whole thing collapse.

Thinking back I feel like the pre invasion bombing went on a little longer than required for a safe run by our ground troops and was used to limit what Saddam would have left after the conflict.
