Frank or anyone:

DSL Times 3

Just spoke with an ISDN/DSL representative @ PacBell today. According this individual there is technology available today to deliver DSL 3x the current maximum loop distance, & that PacBell would be upgrading its current DSL system to this technology in the near future. Assuming the current maximum distance of 15-18,000 ft, that would put me in DSL territory. Can any of you guys confirm this? Or perhaps have an idea what technology the rep was referring to?

Cable

Well, look what happened following my post regarding my local cableco. They're on the block. One day after the local rep told telling me that "Mr. Tow will never sell," & that cable rollout in Santa Moncia & Redondo Beach begins sometime 1999Q1. My guess is Paul Allen will consumate the deal. The wire also cites MediaOne as a possible suitor. But does that make sense given CTYA's JV with TCI@Home? MediaOne may have been cited simply because it owns the franchise in the southern portion of LA.
