I think Governor Thompson or one of the Republican candidates may be a good candidate in 2004.

Les, if you're talking about my Governor Thompson, I will repeat my pragmatic assessment. Personal issues aside, Wisconsin was a tax hell state when Thompson was elected 12 years ago, and it's as much or more of a tax hell state now. I think it was #4 when he came in, now it's #2. And he has the most powerful line item veto in the country, allowing him to write in his own numbers on the budget. He's going to have a hard time explaining that one, his veto has never been overridden.

Or maybe he'll have a nice surprise for us Wisconsinites in the next year or two. After 12 years, I'm not holding my breath.
