Good point Joe on the operators preferring incompatible VW40. There are not that many places where there is GSM/cdmaOne competition right now.

The USA, Australia by the end of 1999, Canada, Singapore and I don't know where else. By the time cdma2000 is ready to sell there will be a lot more.

But maybe the GSM Europeans would prefer no cdma2000 backward compatibility to cdmaOne because they might find competitors installing cdmaOne over the next couple of years before cdma2000 is ready to go. By having an incompatible VW40 version, it stops others entering the market until the 3G standard is selling.

It's plenty obvious why Ericy is making desperate efforts to hold the line against cdma2000 and go for incompatibility and a weakened 3G system.

PS: Ramsey is also sick of 3G!
