VIASOFT was primarily a software development company for 8 of its 11(?) years, and has produced a suite of products to help IBM Mainframe COBOL (and soon other languages) programmers maintain their code. Programmers' needs to analyze, correct, and test their code has increased because of the Y2K problem, and that has increased the demand for that suite of products. Since many companies are just now beginning to realize they are in deep doo-doo because of the Y2K, the number of sales should pick up. And, since VIASOFT licenses their Year 2000 solutions (which includes the suite of tools and procedural assistance to correct the Y2K glitch) to several other very large, influential Software Services suppliers, the demand should ramp up very quickly.

Profit margin on software sales should be higher than the margin on software services. Whether this has any bearing on whether your analysis is correct or incorrect is up to somebody who can translate the above information into a proper formula. That formula should also have a variable in it that adjusts for investor sentiment, momentum plays, the shorts who are trying to make a quick buck, and possibly the phase of the moon.
