Nicholas,
<<<Every time I think I see a clear combination
pattern for a long enter, I then see a case where that pattern can
also lead to a downturn!>>>

yes, this is exactly my observation too. However I think it would be unrealistic to expect an indicator or even a system of indicators to generate good signals 100%. In fact any indicator or system that generates good signals more than 50%, I would consider as having merits and deserving further consideration.

One good way of getting a feel for Dahl's primary trend would be to check out scans that include it,and there are several very good ones in earlier posts on T.A. for Beginners thread. Since you have mentioned rsi, stochastics and macd I would recommend you check out DNS by DAVID EVANS. His binary system combines long and short term trend following indicators with oscillators in a clever set up. Even with DNS one must understand the characteristics of each component indicator, fine tune its periods to suit his/her trading horizon and style, confirm its signals with other methods and finally make abs'tly sure to deploy sound money management. Because IMHO any system will generate off signals at times. best regards MARK
