RE: I believe Government essentially can't help the poor...

Wow, what a straight shooter...even if such an 'ideal' is misguided.

I would love to take you to visit some of those poor folk that that mean ol' government isn't helping in my district but...
etc.

Hi Brad,

Like Brian, I am a libertarian, so maybe I can respond to your
points. You seem to be making the case that there are poor
people so therefor there must be a role for the government
to help them. I don't think most libertarians would argue with
you that poor people exist. I don't think you need to take
Brian anywhere to show him that.

Like you, most libertarians are very interested in solving
the problems of poverty. Where I (and the libertarians I
know) would take issue with you is with your proposal of using
the government as the solution. At the very least, I'd like to
remind you that the government exists now (I can take you to
see it in my district if you'd like) and has been attempting
to solve the poverty problem for decades. Is there a chance that
the government isn't really the solution to the poverty problem?

This century is littered with the graves of millions of people
who have been slaughtered by governments. Our own
government is engaged in adding to this total tonight as I
write this message. And each missile that they fire costs more
than I'll pay in taxes in my lifetime -- money that I'll never
be able to use to help improve the condition of the poor. In
my opinion, you've picked a strange ally in your quest to cure poverty.

Dave
