Thanks for the reply Rudedog. I agree with you that Compaq has its strengths. They could be better in the areas where their competitors are competing in and are doing better. Even regarding their enterprise systems that you commented are better, have they gained back the customers like Microsoft and Boeing that they lost to Dell? The news about servers we just saw that they are still losing more and the leadership in the recent quarter. [And lost my (an eager customer of them as an investor) business of buying a server to Dell. From different people I talk to Dell is getting very good reputation for their computers now. Even the local computer talk show host on the radio was recommending Dell to everybody over Compaq and others at one time. What stopped Compaq to have the same? Need to catch up soon!) Of course I still like many things they are doing as you said and I am holding all my shares.

Here is a report that has better hopes for Compaq:

Compaq Comes Back

Shares of Compaq Computer (NYSE: CPQ) have risen 67% over the last six weeks. Most folks chalk up the gains to early success with a new direct sales model. But there's far more to the Compaq rebound than that.

True enough, that foray will boost Compaq's potential market by 40%, but many analysts see the company's other initiatives boosting sales as well, enabling the company to grow at about twice the growth rate of the personal computer (PC) market.
