that's right! it's all a leftist plot!

but seriously. i think nc's will (largely) fail in the u.s. for the same reason public transportation has (largely) failed in the u.s.: efficiency be damned -- we all wanna be in the driver's seat. maybe there will be some luck putting the secretaries and other low-powered staff on nc's (of course they pretty much are already on nc's), but just try to lug away the ceo's or head engineer's pentium pro and tell him or her that individual pc's are a thing of the past... those are at least the nontechnical noneconomic disadvantages of it, imho. whether it has technical or economic advantages still remains to be seen, and it also remains to be seen how the nc concept does outside the u.s..

and even if nc's become big, do you think this would hurt intel? they'd sell just as many cpu's, except a little more disparity between those at the hub and those at the nodes.
