Because he is handsome, intelligent, well-educated, charming, plausible. Really, he is ace. He tells people what they want to hear, that there is a free lunch, that the rich people will buy it for them. There is no more seductive message a politician can give. Share the wealth. He blows the saxophone. He talks about his underwear on MTV. He seems hip. He has a trophy wife. He has had sex with more women than probably most of us have ever met.
Remember, I am from Louisiana. You can't imagine a more charming man than Edwin Edwards. Even David Duke has polished his image. But you can see that they are slicksters. Those of us who care to, can see that Clinton is a liar just by listening to his voice, the undertones and inflections he gives certain words when he speaks, by looking at what he does with his eyes when he speaks.
I feel absolutely revolted at this process, that the country has come to this. If it is within my power, no man such as Clinton will ever be elected president again. I may not be able to do much, but I vow to do my little bit from this day forward. |
