New Mobile Way to Pay for Home Delivery

TORONTO, Dec. 18 /CNW/ - A new mobile point of sale terminal designed to
revolutionize the home delivery market is being piloted by Scotiabank, Pizza
Pizza, Rogers Cantel and IVI Checkmate. Scotia 2020 Mobile is Canada's first
hand-held wireless point of sale terminal using the Cantel AT&T wireless data
network. This terminal makes it possible for delivery people to process the
customer's credit card payment and tip right at the door. Two Pizza Pizza
locations, one in Toronto and one in Mississauga, are participating in this
pilot.
''We are really excited at Scotiabank about being the first financial
institution in Canada to pilot this completely portable terminal using the
Cantel A&T Network,'' said Ed Lomax, Scotiabank's Assistant General Manager,
Electronic Banking. ''This new payment method is fast and convenient. It
brings the terminal right to the customer's door and processes the credit card
transaction in less than 10 seconds.''
''As Ontario's leader in the pizza delivery business, Pizza Pizza is
participating in this pilot with a view to accomplishing two objectives,''
said Dan Vukovich, Pizza Pizza's Vice-President of Information Technology.
''First we want to provide our customers with the most convenient way possible
to pay for our products. Second, we want to provide the safest work
environment possible for our employees, especially our drivers. This new
technology allows us to do both.''
''Rogers Cantel is delighted to work with Scotiabank, Pizza Pizza and IVI
Checkmate to provide this convenient, portable service to Canadians,'' said
Charles Hoffman, President and CEO, Rogers Cantel Inc. ''The Cantel AT&T
Mobitex network ensures fast, reliable and secure Point of Sale credit card
transactions - right at the doorstep - for all Pizza Pizza customers.''
''We're pleased to offer a point of sale terminal that is unique from
other products being offered in the marketplace,'' said Geoff Bowen,
Vice-President, Sales and Marketing of IVI Checkmate. ''This handheld terminal
offers home delivery people the advantage of not having to carry any bulky
communications materials in a suitcase in order for the terminal to work. Our
model is truly portable and can go anywhere to process a payment.''
This new way to pay is being offered to customers ordering home delivery
from the Pizza Pizza at Church and Wellesley in Toronto and on Derry Road in
Mississauga.
