Luckily, W-CDMA does not have to beat cdma2000 on merit. If it's going to be the upgrade for GSM operators, there will be an enormous built-in market. Operators tend to be extremely conservative - about 90% use their established providers for expansions and upgrades. I think we all know who the world's GSM operators are going to go with. And if that happens, W-CDMA will get the benefit of dominant global market share. Asia is going to follow Japan and China in their 3G standard decisions anyway.
