To all:

I just finished rereading the NTT release, for the fourth time, and something obvious hit me. The Asians and Europeans said nothing W-CDMA; they talked about the need for a single standard rather than support for any particular flavor.

This is extraordinarily profound. Remember...this is not a casually crafted missive dispatched under the cover of darkness...this was prime time, big audience, center stage. So what?

Well, unless I am missing something DoCoMo just threw in the towel on W-CDMA. It just said that it wants ONE standard, without specifying which standard that this must be. Have we just won and not recognized it ourselves?
