Mohan, You are right about the results in the House, but I disagree in your assessment of the chances of conviction in the Senate. I think that there is virtually zero chance of a conviction in the Senate. I think it is clear the the Republicans pushing for impeachment are not doing so with the idea of removing the President. Instead, this is a gesture towards the right wing of the Republican Party, and I think that this clearly explains why all but four moderate Republicans abandoned Clinton. Had there been a greater chance of of removal from office I think you would have seen more people of conscience emerge from the Republican ranks.

I think this just gives some Republicans opportunity to grandstand without real repercussions -- assuming that the American electorate forgets what they did. I will tell you now that I will never forget.

Nor will I abandon those four brave Republicans who maintained their dignity in this tawdry affair.

I also think that this is retribution not only for Richard Nixon, but also Clarence Thomas. The treatment that Thomas received was clearly outrageous. But instead of the Republicans taking home the proper message, they outdid the radical feminists and sank to a new low.

One can only guess how the democrats will respond when they once again gain control of the House and Senate.

Shame on all of them (Republicans and Democrats) for this shoddy behavior.
