JG - Global One is a struggling (recently little growth Y/Y) joint venture between DT, FT, and Sprint (FON). They supply high bandwidth telecommunications services to big businesses as a kind of one-stop-shopping (and I'll probably soon be working with a competitor ;)). However, they are not in mobile to my knowledge.

As for Sprint PCS prediction of 600,000 new subscribers this quarter - that is a very conservative prediction which is predicated on the assumption that they grow sequentially at the same percent rate as they did last quarter. Historically the sequential growth rate in Q4 is substantially higher than Q3 (which was 35%). I would expect closer to 800,000 or maybe a little bit better. It's no wonder that Surfer couldn't get a phone initially.

PS I think that in addition to the Global One JV, DT and FT own some of Sprint, but I can't think how that impacts the convergence argument other than that it makes them rub shoulder with the Sprint PCS folks who strongly believe that CDMAOne gives them a competitive advantage (cost and/or quality).
