Tony,
With a phone you pick it up, dial the number [push the DC button] and talk.
Until it's that easy for data, it'll never fly.
I don't think it will ever be as easy, but it will get easier. One of the reasons CDPD underwhelmed was the convenience. You just didn't have a convenient device to read messages and send messsages back.
One device that may be a step in the right direction is upcoming pdQ smart phone with Palm Pilot user interface from Qualcomm.
The reason I think data is very important, especially for dispatch applications is that just about every company has some kind of software in the office, which contains data you need to sent to people in the field, and voice communication is inaccurate, time consuming. Mobile data capability can make users more efficient and responsive to clients.
Anyway, I was wondering if Nextel has any plans for this market. Our company is using Nextel, and we are getting some PCS phones as well.
