They aren't the producers, they're the purveyors.....and you're right they care little about content until they lose an advertising sponsor or two. And those sponsors ARE extremely sensitive to public opinion, I think we can safely say the "Ellen" was dropped after sponsors realized they would be embroiled in any negative publicity.
