Bill ,re. mighty Intel can do no wrong On the contrary Intel has been in damage control for quite a while . First it tried to monopolise the PC business with a proprietary slot 1 Then it realised that K6 was gaining too much market share so it brought out celeron in a big hurry which not only was a poor performer but also did not have the same Mboard as PII , which did not give the consumer an upgrade path to PII . Then it realised that the price difference in the Mboards between the celeron and K6-2 was too great plus the slot 1 was redundant with L2 cache on the chip . The result was the socketed Celeron A. Add to all this the need for yet another proprietary interface slot 2 and Intel is sending a message that it really isn't in control anymore. It now has 4 different types of mboard which together with its strange way of naming its chips really gets the customer confused Brian
