Thanks for posting on this thread. When I started reviewing the proposals submitted to the ITU I was struck by how incomplete the ETSI UTRA W-CDMA proposal was compared to the CDMA-2000 proposal. For instance, they mention looking at the use of Turbo codes but had not yet implemented them. Instead they employ a concatenated Reed-Solomon/convolutional coding scheme which is not exactly state of the art. You know that the ETSI and others would have us believe that W-CDMA is technically superior to anything else extant. But I find otherwise when I compare the details of the proposals. What do the operators...service providers think? What do their technical people say about the relative merits of the two proposals?
