Jay, I think you are underestimating manufacturer's desire to have a competitive advantage. If Valence's batteries are clearly superior to the canister Li Ion battery packs, most OEM's will want to offer them. If you walk around a computer store today, you will find that most high-end models have LiIon canister type battery packs as standard. If there is suddenly a large supply of batteries that have 40% more run time and fit in the same space, OEM's will want them.

As far as timing is concerned, I believe Valence may be readying to add another shift capable of 2500 laptop batteries per shift. I would expect these batteries to find their way into OEM's products far sooner than late '99. If they are up to 270 employees, they must have some serious production underway. The physical size and basic characteristics of the 4x4 inch laptop batteries has not changed for over a year, allowing ample time for OEM's to have designed them into their products.
