Hello All, Everytime I read "NT..." with trepidation in someone's post my heart feels the same as when I watch those baby turtles trying to make it to the water on the nature specials... "come on you can make it!"
pae I was reading back thru some of your posts trying to read what happened to your abortive install, maybe it is old news for you now?
for the record I am a rabid critic of Win95/98 (and happily NT enabled, laptop and all). I have earned my hatred of the aforementioned os during endless days in the pits of Reinstall Hell.
I find NT's, install much faster, error handling existant (in win95/98 a GPF causes assorted displays of os Hari-Kari) and security attempted. I have been using it for over a year now on many types of machines and am starting in on v.5 I wish anyone luck who is trying it. and the first advice is don't skip the hardware compatibility check :) unless you are willing to get your hands wet.
I am enjoying the thread and have my own introductory question. Does anyone USE multi-monitor cards? And if so, which one? Can anyone tell me about there personal experiences/recomendations? I am looking at STB, Appian, Color Graphics, Diamond, ?Matrox? (are their others?) I am on a dual SuperMicro PII350/NT4(5)w/ISDN. How much of a hit is three-four monitors running "standard" daytrading progs(RealTick, browser, mIRC, etc) to a PII? Am I Better off Farming some load onto a network? You can probably tell I am new to Day-Trading. The price point for a 4 port card doesn't seem much greater (proportionaly) than a 2 port. And lastly any good reseller links for this kind of hardware? I am already a huge fan of Killerapp and an old-school Pricewatcher but their offerings in this area are quite thin, also found Phractor, MB Trading, Elite, etc... were only of marginal help as far as the serious high-end harware pipeline/conection goes. Any thoughts would be great. mowa |
